About This Newsletter

The myths of Christmas cover both pre-Christmas myths and Christian myths.

Letter from the editor

Some of the Christmas myths come to us from Pagan mythology. Some of them come from Christian mythology. Some come from t.v. shows and some are combination of all three.

The per-christian myths concern Santa Claus and his evil twin, the Christmas tree, and creatures that were intended to frighten children into being good. Some of these Pagan myths were incorporated into Christian mythology so the pagans who entered the church would have something to celebrate.

Saint Nicholas was a Christian who was mytorted and become a symbol of giving. Saint Nick (Santa Claus) combines history with mythology.

Some modern myths are Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nosed reindeer. There are numerous other modern and ancient myths that tell stories about Christmas. Do you know them or write about them?
