Words aren't just a group of letters strung together. They hold power and can quickly get our emotions swinging; everything from fury to uncontrollable laughter - and everything in between. Therefore, when we are writing, we need to give some thought to our word choices and what emotion we want the reader to feel.
Words that raise curiosity:
secret
forbidden
cover-up
covert
controversial
off-the-record
Words to evoke confusion, helplessness:
doubtful
uncertain
disillusioned
tense
vulnerable
overwhelmed
doomed
incompetent
distraught
Words that may arouse anger:
ordeal
provoke
tragic
aggravate
deplorable
corrupting
inconsiderate
harsh
harmful
Words to create anxiety:
excitement
eager
worry
nervous
concern
Have fun playing with words and trying new words to see what emotions you can draw out of your readers! |
